The 24-70L is fantastic for studio work as I only shoot this lens from f4-f11. If i am shooting up to f4, the primes take over the work. Besides from that, the lens is fantastic!

Bob, perhaps it's time to invest in a cable release? ;)

It may weigh a ton, but that's why I work out ;). I'll never hesitate to recommend this lens to anyone.

I am considering this lens to compliment my 16-35mm and 70-200mm.
I own EF 50mm f/1.4 and I am using 50d, so the gap is actually 56-112.
Do you find it useful on crop? Are the colours similar to EF 16-35mm f/2.8L or better, more like EF 70-200mm f/2.8L?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I wouldn't really want to take a landscape pic with this on a crop.

on a crop it's effectively 38-112mm, but before I got my 5D II, I was using this lens just fine on a 50D.

I own the 50D and the Canon 50mm f/1.4 as well. Over the past 9 months, the 50mm lens has been my go-to lens (before Oct. I was using the 50mm f/1.8 ). With that said, I purchased the 24-70 several weeks ago and its image quality, versatility, and build (read: focusing) have kept my 50mm in the bag.

I don't know how the colors compare to the 16-35mm or the 70-200mm f/2.8, but I can tell you that saturation is very good. This image is SOOC, shot through a high-rise window:

Furthermore, the focal length has not been a bother on the APS-C sensor, yet. But then again, I'm not a dedicated landscape photographer, and I do intend to change to a FF sensor within a year. I think, given your other lenses, this would fit your needs very nicely.

I like the shots coming from this lens. It may just be my first "L" along with the 70-200 f2.8 IS...
