The rumor of a new version with IS has been around for at least two years if not longer... besides who needs IS on that lens anyway?

Exposure 0.1 sec (1/10)

Why? It's already complicated enough with it's reverse zooming mechanism, which I think is a really good design.
But then again, why not...I think I'd buy one eventually....

The crop shooters who own a 17-55 IS and move to full frame?;):) Of course they could opt for the 24-105, I suppose.

I really wish that you and we [Including me] look for something different than adding some more features on old lenses that are good enough, for me having IS on 24-70 will never making me to replace it, i didn't replace 100 macro for IS, i didn't replace 70-200 because mkII, so why not thinking about different things than adding IS or producing MKII of old lenses, for me i will always think to buy 24-100 f2.8 over 24-70 f2.8 IS, or if that 24-105 IS became 20-150 f2.8 even without IS, i never complaint about needing IS on 24-70, even i never feel happy that i have IS on 24-105, i even don't know if that IS really did something for it, i try not to shoot at 1/20 or slower even if i have powerful IS, but i know people want anything to be added to current lenses to believe it will enhance their photos, and i can't stop them to wish whatever they want but i really don't want that 24-70 to have IS, then more weight and more money and maybe not many can afford it.

I am pretty sure that many of the crop shooters don't own or will ever own the 17-55 IS :p My first DSLR kit was a 40D and 17-85 IS USM then upgraded the kit lens to the 24-70L and had that lens on the 40D for a year before upgrading to FF. I loved the 24-70/40D combo and found it extremely useful for portraits and certain landscape shots if I wanted go wider I have a 10-20mm lens for that :p
I totally agree with mr Tareq. Sometimes IS is a bit overvalued.

And the funny thing is that i watch this thread and find out how amazing this lens can do, even that 24-105 shots don't appealing me as much as this lens, so how come that Is on 24-105 didn't give that much difference then? Also the nice shots here making me to ask who did complain that they want IS to have better shot? maybe i didn't read the entire posts in this thread but all what i heard as an issue with this Brick is the focus problem [either back focus or front focus] calling the lens as a bad copy.

If it's front focus or back focus, then use the Microfocus to adjust it to fit the body, mine is adjusted at +3, my 85L at +1 but the 24mm series one that I had ( and it was a very good one) was +12, before I adjusted it, I was scratching my head (I find wide angles confusing to judge the focus some days) but I played with it and at +12 it really was right on. Before I had a camera with Micro Focus adjustment, I was sending lenses and one body in to Canon to have them tweaked to perfection. With MA, I had everything dialed in the day I got the camera.

Last 2 weeks I've been putting together a studio in my cellar, weekend just gone I had a couple of families to test it out for me.

I have a couple of areas that I have cornered off with wooden flooring, this shot is using 2 speedlites (430 EX II) - they will have to do untill I can get my self a couple of studio lights..

I haven't used the 24-105 f4 but the fact it is a f4 lens and I often need to shoot at f2.8 to separate the subject from the background at wider FL and I know f4 is often not enough after have used the EF-S 17-85 IS. I am not trying to offend anyone here but I believe those whom would find IS on the brick useful are those who are older with shaky hands.

Well other than the IS hype there are also a few in here who complain about the focusing issues with the brick. I really don't know if mine has the same issue because I haven't spent time testing it and I haven't had to do a 100% crop on any of my shots so far. If I ever need to crop that much then it means I need a longer lens. I consider it waste of time to check at which focal lengths my copy back- or front-focuses because I am satisfied with the shots I have got so far.

I heard it has this so called focusing anomaly or whatever which means it could front focus and back focus at different FL but as I said I have got sharp images without AF adjustments at all focal lengths probably because I haven't had to extensively crop photos taken with that lens.
