Stupid question,

can the 24-70 at 70mm wide open match the 35L wide open in terms of bokeh?

Which is sharper? This applies to those who have both lens.

Just curious.

remember that focal length has an effect on bokeh as well. So, technically, you could get the same bokeh (or there about) on both with careful distance focusing.

But if you mean does the 35L at 2.8 have a better or same bokeh as the 24-70 at either 35 2.8 or 70 2.8, we'll i've never tried that just to test, but Brian over at the.digital.picture.com has provided a lot of work for the curious.

check it out : http://www.the-digital-picture.com …omp=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp=3 (external link)

(keep in mind Brian is really testing image quality and not bokeh, but maybe the site will be of help for you)

L Primes are the sharpest of the bunch.. i don;t this the 24-75 can out perform a 35m L lens.... i strongly doubt it!

But why worry when you can produce pictures as good as these with the 24-70. Dtufino, I think these are terrific...technically good and the mood is very well portrayed.
