I currently own Sigma 24-70 EX DG. It's nice, but slower focusing and volnurability to get broken (just paid $170 FOR FIXING IT after an impact I can't even remember) made me start thinking about going Canon. My buddy has 24-105 IS L f/4, I love it, what is the opinion on it from the ppl using 24-70 L f/2.8 and 24-105?? iS QUALITY COMPARABLE?I do not really care about an extra stop
thanx

the age old debate, 24-70L vs. 24-105L. I can't help you, I liked them both so much that I have them both. 24-105L is the most versatile lens there is. The 24-70L is great for weddings, portaits etc.

I like the 24-70L more. Not only is it a stop faster, doubling your shutter speed (which might not be a factor with the IS), but a f2.8 allows for a brighter viewfinder and faster AF speeds, and shallower DOF. I hate looking through viewfinder of cameras with aperature more than f2.8 as it just looks so dark.

yeah, f4 is a touch darker, I have 300 f4 and 17-40 f4, they are darker than my 70-200 f2.8 and the Sigma 24-70 but I am more concerned about the actual image quality....

If, as you say, you don't care for the extra stop then go for the 24105. You'll like the extra range and the IS will be useful in many situations.

Since you already own the 70-200 IS, I woudl say go with the 24-70. The f2.8 supposed to give better low light focus performance.

I have both the 24-70 and the 24-105....there is no comparison...the 24-105 is a far more effective lens in most instances....unless you are a serious wedding
shooter..your money is better spent on the 24-105...more range...IS and great IQ

I'd say in terms of optics, both are very similar, the 24-105 gets a bit soft by 105.
Photozone.de has tests of both of those lenses.

You have the 70-200 2.8 IS.

This is an easy answer. 24-70. If you need 70-105, go with the 70-200. It'll kick that 24-105's butt any day of the week. :)
