I have two Sandisk Ultra 512 MB CF cards that I use in a G3. I get a CF error notice after I shoot some number of photos. It is not a consistent number, today I shot 59 all of which are readable. Number 60 resulted in the indictation of a CF error (there is an entry on the CF for the file but it 's file property indictaes zero length). The card is about 25% full. This has occured repeatedly on both cards. I always format in the camera.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Hi,

I have a Sandisk 512mb in my G3 and just experienced the exact same problem! It ususally gives me the error between 35 and 37 shots.

Thankfully in every situation, the images have been readable, though not directly to my hard drive via XP. The only way I was able to retrieve the images off the CF card was by writing them directly to a CD R/W. I don't know if this specifically has to do with the faulty card or not though. I have repeatedly reformatted the card but the error continually pops up after taking between 35 and 37 shots.

It seems like the card has a bad sector in it. It usually results in about two unreadable pictures on the card and then will allow me to continue to take pictures. The CF card is only a month old! I called Sandisk tech support and they were more than happy to take it back an replace it with a new one. I don't know if I'll have this problem again!

I wonder if anyone has had this problem with Sandisk CF cards that have less memory than 512 mb.

I have a sandisk 128mb CF card and have not had a problem. Once I've downloaded my pics from my card, I always format before starting again.

I have a 128mb card and have experienced this. The thumbnail gets generated when downloaded, but there's no image information. I've also experienced some corrupt files.

Yes, that's pretty much the problem I've had. Now, do you continue to use the card in spite of this problem?

I have the Sandisk 512 MB Ultra compact flash card and I have had as many as 150+ pictures (Large/Fine setting). I have also had at least two videos on the card with all those pics one at 3minutes and the other at 1 minute. I haven't experienced any of those issues. I wonder if there are a batch of cards that are defective. How long have ya'll guys had your cards? I just purchased my G3 this month as well as the 512 mb CF card.

FYI....
I bought a Sandisk Ultra 512 for my G5 a month ago. With RAW setting, I should have 104 pictures. I just got that CF error message when I hit counter #44. (60 RAW pictures later) Using the reformat screen, G5 is showing 279 mb used (Out of a total of 487mb). I only passed that half-way mark. Well, I should test all my other regular Sandisk 512 mb CF card now! I'll call sandisk customer service too!

If I start experiencing those issues, I'll contact Sandisk for a replacement. I know I registered my card when I got it and I'm reading the warranty info that came with the card and it states that it is a lifetime warranty if the card fails for as long as you own it. They state that it has to be registered within 30 days of purchase and the warranty is goods as long as it is used in devices that are compliant with the specifications of the CompactFlash Card Association or the SD Card Association. That's directly from the warranty info that came with my card for what it's worth.

Update:
I just shot 104 RAW test pictures with my backup sandisk 512 (Non-Ultra/Cheaper one), until I got the memory card full message. The camera is a little warm but this CF card seems OK. This clearly showed that my Ultra 512 card has storage problem. Well, the Ultra will be going back for a replacement.

Side note: I just realize that there is a noticable speed differnce between the cards. The Sandisk Ultra's speed is a lot faster than the standard one. In my opinion, it's worth the extra $!

What would cause a difference in the number of files that can be stored on the same size CF card when both are shot with the same file resolution and quality. For example, I can get 130 RAW files on my 512 MB Sandisk Ultra CF card and others state they get 104 Raw files on the same size card when they get the "card full" message.

Received my replacement CF card from Sandisk yesterday. Tested it out and NO problems. I must say that their warranty is quite good and their service quite thorough.

They paid for the postage for me to return my faulty CF card and they popped a replacement in the mail as soon as they received the faulty one.

Five year warranty is GREAT!
