hi i was just wondering how many shots people take in the first few days of having their dslr, i am just a lil worried because i have taken over a 100 shots in the first few days, not being serious but i guess just taking it for granted you can delete all the pics you don't like, should i be worried i know the shutter is supposedly for 10000 cyles with my 30d, but am worried that i will wear out the camera early if i take too many shots, what do you think and how many shots did you guys take in the first few days?

equipment so far, 30d, EFS 17-85, EF80-200, 75-300, cheap tripod.

Expected shutter life is 100,000 actuations, not 10,000.

My use is very sporadic. Some times its hundreds in a day or two, other times (like recently) I only manage to squeeze off a couple dozen a week (life with three young kids).

And from everything I've read, its unlikely you'll have a problem. One guy had Canon refuse to service his camera unless they replaced the shutter. Seems it had over 300,000 actuations and that was "beyond the design life" and required replacment - even though it still worked fine (he had unrelated AF problems).

My advice? Don't worry. Enjoy your new camera.

I opened up my new 30D on Tuesday and have probably taken over 700 pics in the past 3-4 days. At first I was letting the 5fps go just for the heck of it to show off. It's addictive, I find myself reviewing the pics i've taken it it looks like I was making a short film from all the bursts.

Yeah, the 30D is designed to take it. The 350D is believed to be 50K cycles, and in the first few days, I blasted off a few hundred shots playing with it. Took pictures of everything I could get my hands on.

When I got my XT, I think I'd racked up 1,000 frames at least, in three weeks. It was probably more.

When I got the 1D, within ten days, I was over 5,000 frames, and it's now a bit over three weeks since it was delivered, and I'm knocking on the door of 10,000.

Don't worry about it. The XT is expected to give 50,000+ shutter actuations, the 20D and 30D around 100K, and the 1D close to a quarter-million. Shutter replacement is supposed to be around $200 to $500 depending on model

It's new, you're getting used to it. Play, have fun. There'll be days, if not weeks or even the occasional month, where you won't shoot a single shot. Then there'll come a day where you'll fill a card in one sitting and wish you had another.

I need to tell myself that. I am absolutely babying my 5D and new pair of L lenses, even though I know they are built to take it and the glass is weather sealed and everything, while at the same time, my 350D and EF-S gear roughs it out with me. Maybe it's just 'new camera syndrome'....

Doc.

Giving you 8 hours a day for sleep, eating, and bathroom duties that means your firing off a shot every two minutes. Quit wasting so much time!

-Actually, I shot 4,400 of them over two days during a paintball game weekend. A lot of them were taken at slightly under one-eighth-second intervals :D

Which is, of course, why I bought the 1D...
