It was my first slr period, and I had some fun. Got my first 20D and popped out about 200 the first day, as it was a fun upgrade from the XT. Got the second 20D, and added 7 clicks to it, just to test it out. Got my 30D wednesday, and I put 50 on it. About 20 between thursday and yesterday. Mac users swear by their computers. And therefore you've already hit the breakeven point for the XT

If your camera dies on you, you just send it in for repair. If it is under warranty period, they just fix it. If you are out of warranty, they give you an estimate of repair costs and you can decide if you wish to repair or replace it...or just chalk it up to experience. 100,000 shots is quite a few when you start thinking about it and then it is just an estimate.
