Took this photo in low key of Columbine flowers to enhance the color. One of my first shot in "RAW" format. The setup; in my living room, flower set on a chair with black fabric drape on the chair back. Equipment: Canon EOS 350 shutter 0.5" f 5.6 ISO 100. Light 60 watt no flash. Camera mount on a tripod.
I am an amateur at photography and would apperciate comments

Very beautiful. I really like what you've done with this.

I don't know what you mean by "low key." I know what it looks like when finished, as I've seen others, but how do you do it? Is it lighting? exposure?

I believe "low key" light is aimmed at the subject the remaining area is dark, and "hi key" light is strong and aimmed at part of the subject almost to the point of saturation.

Hopefully another person on this board can verify my comment, or give a better explanation.

I have heard the term Hgh Key and I believe it is a type of photography where the background is very bright/white and the subject is exposed properly. I have seen shots where the subject is so bright that it is desaturated and this is sometimes refeered to as high key but its really overexposed as far as I can tell. Low key I would presume means dark background with the subject properly exposed.

Now to your photo...having recently posted the same type of flower I can appreciate its beauty through another photograper's eyes. I like the image and it has nice light and color. I only wish it was larger at 800K on the long side.
