wow, to have a working remote *technically* it costs around 4$ worth of radioshack parts.

http://www.camerahacker.com …t/Super_Mini_Switch.shtml (external link)

my radio shack was a pain cuz they had nothing in stock.. so i just bought a 3/38 connector and a normal 3.5mm stereo wire. the 3/38 with the 3.55, and stick the 3/38 into your remote plug for the 350d, and basiclaly to take a photo, you connect the red wire and the grounding wire, to autofocus, connect the ground wire with the black wire.

cheap as hell to make, can make it fancy if you please, not too hard, just a matter of simple soldering / finding a nice case

I just recently aquired my digital rebel xt, and don't know the whole history on how it became the 350D from the 300D, but that switch says it is for the 300D. Is the circuitry the same? Cause I would definitely want to build one if so.

yes the circuitry's the same. The 350d remote is actually super easy to make.
Simple walkthrough for making the remote would be
Buy a 2.5mm stereo jacked wire cable, such as a 2.5mm stereo headphones
cut off the earphone part, and just keep the section with the jack + wire
plug the jack into the camera *which accepts only the 2.5mm jacks* or use an adapter if you could not find a 2.5mm jack'd wire.
then strip the tips of the wire, and touch them together.
In general, Red wire + Grounding wire = shutter
Black Wire + Grounding wire = autofocus *if you have it on*
set to bulb mode on your camera, then touch the red and grounding wire together = shutter on, and stays on until you release the 2 wires

to make the casing and switches, you would basically connect the grond wire + red wire to a Push To Make button switch for the shutter, and the black wire + grounding wire to another toggle switch for autofocus.
though the best part is, connecting another red wire to the grounding wire through a toggle switch and you will have the bulb mode shutter on/off

Why not just buy an infrared remote

I have the Rebel XT. I bought an RC-1 remote which works a treat. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk …64345QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (external link)

I read somewhere in the forum of someone taping a teaspoon to the camera to bounce the infrared towards the sensor if you are using a tripod and standing behind

yup, though i got a third party IR remote. problem is mine, u gotta be infront of the camera / reach around to aim the remote at the camera for it to work. and it doesn't have a bulb trigger button =( nice to have bulb and mirror lockup to be trigged via remote. though problem is i like to have a toggle switch for bulb setting, rather than having to hold onto the button

I have this one and its great (even better for the price)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk …5QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem (external link)

Comes with a mirror that you attach to the lens with an elastic to bounce the "beam" from behind the camera. Not elegant but better than a taped spoon ;)

On 350D it has 2 modes, instant release and 2 sec delay. The cam will auto focus before firing if set to AF. (will only fire if it can lock focus)
Works with MLU and bulb.
...and comes with built in torch :D

Sumozebra, its great for bulb as you press once to open and then press again to close.

Cheers,
