Lemur Catta / the ghost

Hi everyone

The tails of these wee guys are covered with rings, and thats ofcours where they get their name from...Ring-Tailed Lemur.
Obviously this time we wont get to see the rings as the picture is a close-up portrait of this cute little guy.

The Lemur, which means "ghost" in Madagascar, is a good name for these mysterious looking creatures.
Spending slightly more time in the trees then on the ground, the ring-tailed lemur is the only primate in Madagascar to make extensive use of the land for foraging.
Whether it's fruits, leaves, or flowers, the lemur's happy to be out daily looking for food with a troop of as many as 30 others.
On the ground these lemurs walk on all fours, their hind-ends perched high because their arms are so short!

Please enjoy and give me your feedback.

Up until now I had only ever seen the cute, cudly side of this species. You have opened my eyes to their more serious side. Some very sharp teeth in there and I can understand the perils of being a caretaker of animals, even cute ones like these. Awesome shot Dimitri. Excellent exposure and detail as always!

Super pose of a quite unusual animal Dimitri - it looks as though you woke him from a nap!

I'm thinking he could crack coconuts with those teeth! Great shot, Dimitri! Don't think I'll be wanting to cuddle up to one of these anytime soon!
