Hi,

More heavy metal from Finland. Their lead singer/bass player also plays bass (and sings) in Nightwish. Or will play bass and will sing, after they find a new lead singer :)

[note to self: I have to put tape over the switches - particularly IS mode switch - of my 70-200 for concerts]

Wow these shots are really great - the last one is definitely my favourite, you caught a great pose.

very nice. As a long time metalhead, these shot definitely give me the mood of being at a show.

Three guys? No drums? Colors seem a bit strange. To bad three are "nose hair" shots ... I get dinged on that when I get too close, sigh. Lots of power and energy though. And the smoke worked really well.

Thanks all for the feedback :)

Couldn't get shots of the drummer because of bad lighting (the drummer had no spots on him). Excuses, excuses... I'll admit that I didn't spend all that much time getting that drummer shot, but the times I checked, it was too dark - he just didn't have any lights pointed at him.
I would have spent more time hunting the drummer shot if this was not a hobby thing - now I chose to give priority to chasing for the "perfect" pose from the performers who were in front.

I still have to work on getting different kind of compositions and so on (I have many multiple-performers -shots, but most of them just didn't work out). Here's the full gallery:

For me, colors are fine in the four first shots, although admittedly I didn't go for the perfectly natural look. In the fifth shot, you can see the effect of big blue lights that they had on the floor, which ruined many, many pictures.

Maybe it's blindness to my own pictures, but in these that aspect never even crossed my mind. I did learn a lesson in another concert shoot: never ever take head portraits from below. All you see is nostrils.

Thanks, Dwight, for the critique and comments. I should try to shoot a few concerts aiming for a good solid gallery, not just hunt for that one single perfect picture. I guess it's a bit of a kid in a candy shop -effect... I am drawn to take photos of situations that I see are interesting, when I should think about variety and force myself searching for more possibilities.

Yes, the artists don't like 'shooting up the nose' ... fortunately it is usually not a problem for me but when I do it I get told! :-) Part of the problem here, of course, is that you have set such high standards of work for yourself ... if some new guy came in with these we'd all be ooohing and aaaaahing! :-)

Very nice as usual, but some look a bit over sharpened to me...

Exactly what stupot said, number 3 works for me.

Fierce looking guys. Is the music as fierce as the looks, or are they just whimps and posers?

Great shots, they convey the energy of metal quite nicely.
