When I was initially asked to shoot this family wedding, I declined. I explained that I havn't shot a wedding in over twenty years, and I would not feel comfortable doing it. I also explained, that when you shoot a wedding, you need TWO OF EVERYTHING! Well quess what, I just dropped my 50mm f1.4 and it was my only fast lens. Needles to say, the lens did not survive the fall. I have never dropped a lens, but there is a first for everything. I normally shoot wildlife so my funds are in long telephotos. Well, I have to make the most of a 28-70mm f3.5-4.5, a 35-105mm f3.5-4.5 and a 90mm f2.8 macro. I quess I could make some use of my 100-400 L. If I shot weddings at the level you guys do, I would have TWO FAST LENSES! I hope I have a chance this Saturday, since I promised that I would take some photos for them, since they say that they cannot afford a photographer. Bummmmer!

Can you spring for a 50 1.8 in the meantime? They're only like 80 bucks new. If not, that 28-70 should do if you can use a flash. Do you have a good flash unit?

Yes I do have, what I consider good flash equipment I have a Metz 60 CT, and a Vivitar 284 with a Quantum battery pack. So I do have back up for the flash. I also think I may still remember how to use this stuff, since I still use them for family shots occasionally. I quess there are more ways to separate the subjects from the background than large apature to blur the background. Not the same, though.

I have a single fast lens (50mm F1.4) but my F2.8 zoom is a good enough backup if anything went wrong with it. I am going to get a 30mm F1.4 soon, that will be my main prime and the 50mm will be my backup I think.
