That's really your decision. The only reason to pick the 20D over the 30D is to save a couple hundred bucks. Either camera is great, but the 30D does have some goodies that the 20D doesn't have. To me, they are worth the extra money. Where I already have the 20D, it's not worth trying to sell it and getting a 30D myself. I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll shoot with the 20D until I'm ready to upgrade... and at that point it will either be a 1 series or a 5D.

I'd lean more towards the 30D, IMO the slightly higher price is worth it. The only time I'd stick with a 20D is if you already have one. I say go for the 30D ;)

Go for the 30D it has spot metering over the 20D plus a much better display. You won't regret it!

was in the same position as you, got the 30d 4 days ago, is really amazing, the lcd is worth it as the extra features i would say go for it although the 20d is a great camera, 30d is a bit better, taken some sweet photos already,

equipment so far, 30d, EFS 17-85, EF80-200, 75-300, cheap tripod.

So everybody wants a 30d now. I just bought a 20d for a good price second hand. If you can live with second hand, the 20d is going to be a good buy.

Stay away from the cutting edge and you will enjoy a great product at significantly reduced costs.

It's curious that most people dismissed the 30d when it first came out as a minor upgrade over the 20d and now have switched to lusting after it. Nowt as queer as folk, as they say in more rural parts of Northern England!

It's a great time to be looking to buy a digital SLR.

I am awaiting delivery of my secondhand 20D - I really want a 30D, but finances won't stretch to it - and it's mainly for the viewfinder ISO display and spot meter - I've never had one - only ever had Canon bodies with partial metering.

The thing is, to go from 10D->20D->30D costs the same as 10D->30D so I may as well get the benefit of the 20D until the 30D becomes obsolete, and I can finally afford it.

If I was buying new, and could afford either, I guess I'd look at what the benefits of the 30D would be, or if I could better spend the difference on glass, software, or other accessories.

Either way, both are fantastic cameras, and I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever you get.

I have the 20d and love it. I just wish I could voice record as I take many sports shots in competitions of people I don't know.

Exactly! I agree with you entirely, and just bought a 2nd hand (though you wouldn't know it as its in perfect condition) for a price a couple of hundred quid cheaper than the 30d. For that money I can buy an ultra wide angle lens!

I did the same thing. I couldn't justify the extra cost for the featurs. Not that they are not worth the money, they are totally worth it, however, I wouldn't use them to their potential. The 20D does exactly what I need it to do, so that's what I got. I am thrilled with this camera. For me It is about what options I need vs options I want.

Like I posted somewhere else, eventually, we'll all most likely upgrade, but if the 20D will do the job, why spend the extra money for the 30D. You could invest that in some good glass.

they are both very good camera's, but the 30D gets the nod, that 2.5" LCD is worth it by itself
