Hey everybody,
Just need some help. I just got the 30D not long ago, and there is already a scratch on my LCD panel. I would like to get a scratch remover to get rid of it, but I am not sure what it is made of. Is it plastic or glass? Do you think it's a good idea to get a scratch remover? Any brand of remover you recommend? I know it sounds crazy, but I just got the camera. If the camera was a couple of years old I wouldn't care. But It's my new toy and I don't wanna see a scratch on it.
Leo - I would be really surprised if you actually managed to scratch the cover on the LCD. More than likely, you smeared something on it that looks like a scratch. If this is true, it can be cleaned off. If it is in fact a scratch and the scratch is light, it can be easily polished out. I would use the same polishing compound for both actions.
There are plastic polishes available, but the easiest stuff to find is polish intended for automotive clearcoat finishes. Wal-Mart usually carries such a polish made by 3M. It's sold in a black plastic bottle, and can be found in the automotive department near the touch-up paints.
A little of the polish on a soft cloth can be rubbed across the "scratch". I would suggest using many different directions of movement to even out the polishing action.
