A couple of my wife (and son). She mentioned to me that she doesn't have any recent solo portrait shots of her. Have to get on that soon.

That pic looks a bit grainy (high ISO?). Maybe it would also look great in Black and White?

Try pointing it behind you either directly back or at a 45 degree angle towards the wall/ceiling. You're still not diffusing the light enough to get rid of that shadow. The rest of the photo, to include the subject, is very nice, however.
