Yeah, I think it's more of a support and balance situation. Right hand shutter release, left eye centers the head better, right eye moves head further left. In other words... it just feels right.

It feels right because you're left eye dominant too. It's a bit like right and left handedness but there are about three times as many left eyed people as left handed people. The human population's split is about 70:30 right:left eye dominant. To test yourself, hold both arms out in front of you leaving a small gap between your hands, through which you look (with both eyes open) at a distant object. Then close one eye. If you can still see the object, the other (open) eye is dominant for you.
