Hi all,

I am currently the high bidder on this (external link). Is it a good deal?

Bearing in mind I just got a 30D :)

Thanks in advance

Alistair

Well, to give you an idea, they go for about $3,500 US here, new. I would say that if that doesn't go up more than a few hundred more pounds, then it's a good deal.

On another note. What's the difference between the 1D mkII and the 1D mkII N?

Would I be better off waiting and getting a 1D MKII N as I have after all just bought the 30D?

TIA

Alistair

As far as how much of an upgrade the N is, it's sort of like comparing 20D to 30D. The 1DMkIIN has a bigger buffer, picture styles, 2.5" LCD, etc. I'd pay $500 extra for it, personally.

Thanks once again Ron. I'm only the highest bidder on this because someone else has retracted their bid, the seller has contacted me asking if I'm serious and after your advice I think I'll say "no thanks"

might just be me but i wouldn't bid on that auction. the guys has been selling stuffed bears on ebay so i find it strange that he has a brand new in box mark II and that it is so cheap. ebay has gone to the toilet in recent years so i would be kinda scared buying something so expensive of a guy that sells stuffed bears...

Another thing to bear in mind ... with auctions, it isn't over until it's over.

Most experienced auction participants only submit their best offers seconds before the end of the auction. So you might feel like you have won it until the last minute, and then the price goes up. So if somebody outbids you now, wait until the end of the auction.

i am not knocking them (400?!??!?! thats insane!!!) however, i would assume that if i wanted to sell a high price item, i would take pics of the actually item and put some sort of description and not just photos and info from the canon site... i HATE ebay and i rarely use it anymore unless it is an ebay store.

That got me wondering as well. Sometimes you have 'hijacked' identities when somebody who has been selling only small stuff (like teddy bears) so far suddenly offers some high-priced items. But s/he's only selling that camera and an LCD projector at the time. And obviously s/he has been kind of dealing with LCD projectors for some time, as some enthusiastic feedback entries show ... so I think it's legit. Maybe ask if you can pick it up yourself and pay cash or if you can look at it before submitting your bid.

As to the question 'why is it so cheap?' ... well, obviously because nobody has bid much on it so far. That's how auctions work . This could be a great chance if most other bidders are suspicious and you have some kind of way to find out whether this dealer is legitimate or not.

Best regards,
Andy
