Battery Grip Problem

I have recently purchased the canon battery grip for my 350d and have been using sterlingtek batteries with it. Recently i find that the 350d's battery indicator shows empty, but when i take the battery grip's magazine and re-insert it again the battery indicator shows shows full again and i can carry on shooting. I am quite sure that the batteries are not flat as i have not taken enough shots for both batteries to be flat.

Anyone come across this or is it because i'm using 3rd party batteries whcih are causing the problem?

I've never heard of this being related to the batteries, only the grip.. My 20D's grip has done this twice in the month or so I've had it.. it's a known problem. There are a couple of fixes out there for it, try searching for the problem on the forums...

This was a known problem with the 20D, but I never heard about it on the 350D.
One thing Canon always said about the 20D and grip is to not insert the batteries into the grip until after you attach the grip to the camera. If you attach the grip with batteries in the grip, this may be the problem.

Wow, looks like Canon can't make a good grip to save their life!
Yet, I think the old 10D and 300D grips were fine. I wonder if the 5D has the same problems since both the 20D and 350D are affected.

Not that I have noticed and I have put about 5000 pictures through the 5D with the grip on.

re: the 350D and grip - I ran around 11000 pictures through the 350D with the grip on - and it played up 2 or 3 times during the whole period - and only with the 70-200mm lens on. It never played the battery low trick - it would just 'lock up' and I would power off, power on and keep shooting.
