I've got a G5 and when using manual focus, I find it really hard to tell by looking at the screen if I'm "perfectly" focused. I can see that it come's into focus but I can't see enough detail on the tiny LCD to tell if I'm right on.
Is there something I'm missing or is this just part of being in the point and shoot club?

That was my experience with the G5 manual focus, too. I use a different camera now. :)

My eyes arent the best in the world but i find the manual focus to be quite acceptable, i suppose it depends on what type of scene your shooting ...

On my G2, I never understood why anybody would want to use the 'manual focus' feature.

It's a better idea to find out how the AF works on your G series.

Best regards,
Andy

Autofocus works great for point n shooting.....But when your trying to focus on the inside of a flower or on the eyes of a model and not the nose, It would help to be able to see what I'm focusing on.

I've also tried manual focusing on a certain point and then just moving the camera in or out to focus on what I want........Just was wondering if there was anything else I could do..

can't you try 'focus bracketing' ? read the manual on this subject. maybe that will help. in short, focus with focus bracketing turned on, the G5 will take 3 photos with slightly different a slightly different focus. no idea if this works in manual focus mode though and I have not got my manual with me to investigate : )

In low light and full zoom the only way to focus is in manual focus, and it is really hard even with the astonishing sharp LCD and Electronic Viewfinder (235200 pixels) of the Pro1.
I guess the G series cameras have a similar behavior.

Yeah...I've used bracketing and you can adjust the focus field and it works for some things, just not all. I just don't like how you have to "hope" you get the shot you want......I would rather see with my eyes that I have everything perfectly focused before I snap away.
PLUS, Bracketing takes 3 pics and when I shoot, I usually at least shoot 100 pics....SO, that would be 300 pics I need to go through to see if I even got what I wanted....:(
I think I'm just outgrowing the G5.......
