hi guys i am new to world of the DSLR , so apologies if this thread has been covered before.
are there any advantages with the firmware upgrade for the 10d?, i currently run ver 1.0.1 and wondered if there was anything to gain stability wise as i get the very occasional ERR99, thanks in advance for any replies.

The latest firmware for the 10D is version 2.0.1 and you can download it here: http://web.canon.jp …OS10D/10D_firmware-e.html (external link)

I don't know if it makes your camera more stable with regard to ERR 99, but there are some new features and bug fixes in the upgrade which probably make it worthwile to do the upgrade.

The download page has a list of fixes and improvements.

Have you noticed what might be causing your Err readings. I have never gotten an ERR reading on my 10D unless I had not tightened this or that.

About your ERR 99 errors: What lens(es) are you using? Some third-party (non-Canon) lenses are not fully compatible with all Canon EOS cameras and might cause this error.

ERR 99 basically means something is wrong, but the camera doesn't know exactly what. It could be caused by loose contacts between the camera and lens, or dirty contacts. Clean the electrical contacts on the camera and lens with cleaning alcohol.

Surprisingly the only time i get the error message is when using a canon lense the 50mm 1.8 mk1, it is only very sporadic i think it may have been a "pilot" error the last time it occurred as it was a rush shot to change white balance and i just got the feeling it was going to happen somehow, sadly the lense i love the most sigma 70-210 apo will only work at 2.8 on the 10d and upon contacting sigam i was told they dont stock the parts for a re-chip on the model i own, oh well better start saving the pennies for the canon version;).
thanks for the replies to my querie:)
