Hey everyone,
I have had my 350d for about 8 months now and i'm going on a 2 week holiday to egypt in mid summer. The last time i went to egypt i took an elan 7ne and had no problems with the camera whatsoever, even when the temperatures soared to 56 degrees celcius. However The highest working temperature rating that canon gives it's digital cameras is 40'C- Will my 350d survive the temperatures or is it canon just saying that to worry me :)? has anyone been to egypt with a 350d and are there any issues with battery life that i should be worried about if the camera is ok?

Feel free to post your images of egypt as well :D .

thanks for looking.

I would think that Canon has to put a limit in their manual to protect themselves. You know, just in case someone tries to put in the oven and then blame them because it melts:rolleyes::rolleyes:. Some people do the stupidest things.

I used my 10D in India a few years ago where the temperature ranged between 45 to 50 C. I didn't have any issues with the camera but I felt like I was going to melt into nothing. I would hope that the build on the XT is at least as good if not better as time goes by in the evolution of the Canon DSLR bodies.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

I can't give you specific advice as I haven't taken my 350D into extreme conditions. Just follow basic precautions...
Never leave it in the sun
Maybe try and keep it in a silver bag?
Keep an eye for condensation when going from air-conditioned room to outside. I don't think there is alot of humidity there but be aware. Not alot you can do about it anyway.

Here is a pic I took a couple of years ago...

Just kidding.... its cg ;)

For pics of Dahab check out the link below (unfortunately before I got my 350D)

I think you will be OK. I carry mine into a greenhouse farily often where temps can hit over 100 plus incredibly high humidity.

Remember that you may have some condensation issues from SUDDEN temp change and take that into consideration.

In my area of OZ we regularly hit summer temps of 40C+. As long as you try to avoid leaving your 10D in direct sun (particularly in unventilated vehicles) you should be fine.

Enjoy Egypt - this is my next planned trip.

I've shot a lot in Egypt and here in Arizona in those temps with no issues. (My video camera packed it in on an Amazon trip from humidity) Just don't sit it down in the sun and leave it there or it it hit 100 celcius real fast. Shade it when you can.

Cheers everyone, the only problem i seem to remember from last time is that the shaded tombs tend to be about 10'C hotter than outside :D Last time i went, I ascended back form visiting tuthmoses' tomb and actually felt quite cool when i got back outside, even though it was around 47'C.

what can you do to protect against humidity/condensation when you take the camera from air conditioned rooms to the outside?

Keep it in a sealed plastic bag when you go move from one place to the other. That way everything will condense on the bag, not the gear.
