I got my Rebel XT back in Feb06. Last night when I tried to format the CF the menu wouldn't come on, but the camera turns on and you can take a shot. I thought the battery. I recharged and put it back, still, the menu or any of the back buttons (review, jump, stc) wouldn't come on. Has anybody experienced this problem before? What do you think the problem is? Let me know. Thanks.

hmmm that sounds odd...Maybe you can take out the small battery in it and see if it will totally reset itself

Try a different CF card.
Or worse, grab a magnifier glass and check inside the CF compartment for a bent pin.

Strange that Stavhp had a similar thing that was just power related.

Have you tried different batteries? Maybe the battery is bad/old and cannot hold a full charge.

If none of the buttons bring up anything on the screen it sounds to me like the LCD is kaput.

I think its back to Canon or shop... :(

Thanks. I tried everyone's adivse. I stick 6 AA into the battery grip to test if my NB2s are bad. Evandavies was right, the NB2s cannot hold full charge. REplacement on the way. The thing though is that the camera keeps registering that the battery is full. Is there a malfunction somewhere?

Thats pretty strange.
I've heard that with the grip the meter can read low with new batteries but not the opposite... reading full when they are empty !?!?!

Ah well, at least its not the camera ;)
