I have read that you can change the focus screen on the 1D MKII, but how does one go about it. I can't find any reference instructions in the included manual.
I dont plan on changing the screen right now, but I do have a couple small specs on mine that I would like to blow off. So I figured if it's easy to remove...

take off the lens and look into the chamber (where the mirror and sensor are). on the top, you will see a small metal tab. if you push that tab a bit, the screen will just fall and you can change it... takes about 3 seconds :)

Hehe, thanks blonde!
I can't believe the manual doesnt show that, or if it does, I didn't see it.
Btw, because the screen is so accessible, I was able to blow the marks off easily with the rocket blower :)

Yes! With the 20D, if you got dust or something on the focus screen, it was semi-permanent :)

When you buy a new focus screen it comes with a tool to remove the old focus screen along with directions that include a lot of pictures. It is very easy to do.
With some of the focus screensyou may need to change custom function 0. It is all explained in the directions

I have the EC-B screen installed in my 1D.......easy to do and the screen has the split-prism in the centre which really helps with manual focus. I am going to get one of the newer ones soon which has the 'rule of thirds' lines imprinted. I think that would be useful for composing......
