Hi all first post in a while, I was wondering what color settings or adjustments people use with their 20d 30d, i like the colors the camera gives but is there a way to get punchier or deeper colors straight from the camera without PS, also what are the general things you can do with the 30d to get different colors etc, thank you, :) here is a sample photo taken two days ago, if i am not supposed to put pics straight in these threads mods let me know,

It looks plenty colorful to me, I would suggest playing with the picture style settings if you want different results or learn to shoot raw for maximum control

Thanks for the reply, calikot, yes i see what your saying, i agree that seems silly to ask about color deepening with such a colorful image, it is day shots that do not seem as deeply colored, but will take your suggestions, cheers:)

I think that you will find that there is not one setting that will do everything. As you get better at using your camera you will begind to anticipate what settings are for what situation. In short, there really is no answer to your question as it will change everytime you take your camera out.

What's interesting about this shot is that the back wheel is blurred while the front is crisp. How did you do that?

thank you for replies rklepper and adas, basically i got lucky with the photo, i was trying to focus on the car as it was going past, so i just shot while both the camera and subject were moving and i had to focus quick, also i think because i was not shooting with high iso as i was later the shutter time was slightly longer and that caused more blur,:)just got a lucky colorful shot though,

You can use custom setting and set color saturation to whatever you like. Otherwise, there is post processing. :)

Lately, thanks to a suggestion on this forum, I decided to start shooting w/ the contrast and saturation turned down a bit in the camera. Then, when I process the raw, I bump up the saturation to where I like it and keep the contrast somewhat understated. Then, once I convert it to tiff or jpeg, i'll play with the curve and turn the contrast up that way, really makes things pop and you don't lose so much detail IMO. That's what has been working for me, but everyone does it different.

That's just the way it works when you're panning. Unless you're shooting the car perfectly perpendicular as it goes by, there will be a part of the car more focused than the other. The closer you are to the car (subject), the more difficult it is to get the entire car in focus. Give it a shot, put the camera in shutter priority, select a somewhat slower shutter, and go pan on random cars driving by. I usually put the AF on servo.

Looks cool to me.

Shoot some raw and increase the Sat level. See if you like that better.
