G6 - shooting with AEB (HELP)

today, i tried shooting with AEB in Av, Tv, and P mode on my G6 with 430EX mounted. the 430EX is at ETTL and zoom is auto mode.

this is the first time for me using the AEB mode. i've even set the range for the AEB, but after taking multiple photos, the EXIF does not show any data that displays change in the exposure. Under the exposure part of the EXIF, it just said it's AUTO.

so perhaps i'm misunderstanding the whole concept of AEB. i thought that once i set it, the following shots should change as the more photos I take:
1st: 1/60 F2.0
2nd: 1/60 F2.5
3rd: 1/60 F3.0
4th: etc. etc. etc.

or am I doing something wrong here?

I thought Canon would have fixed this in G6. I have not got G6 or flash to test your findings. I hope someone else here can... : )

Just had a fiddle with my G6 and internal and external flashes. The internal flash has to be off for the exposure bracketing to work (when you switch off the internal flash the AEB icon appears at the left hand side of the LCD). Similarly, when you mount an external flash on the hot shoe, irrespective of whether it is switched on or not the AEB icon will disappear and will not work

sounds a bit 'bug' like to me. should be able to AEB with external flash....

Wouldn't be much point to that; the flash auto-adjusts its settings to the camera's settings, so your subject would get the same exposure regardless. You're thinking of Flash Exposure Bracketing (FEB) which will vary the flash exposure.

You can't "FEB" though can you? With the G6 I mean...

why should I have to remove my flash unit physically from the camera even when the flash is powered off in order to use the AEB feature? It is a bit awkward dont you think? having to unscrew the flash everytime even when it is off.--

i can just imagine canon's response (if any) when I point out a firmware bug in the G3 and ask them to upgrade the firmware in an old 2002 camera in a series that they do not make anymore : )) haha, i think their developers would not even see my request...

hi everyone.. last night i detached the 430EX.. and then when I was playing with G6 today without the 430ex.. and what did you know.. it took 3 photos by itself.

i'm gonna email the ppl at canon about this issue. cuz i agree with andrew.. it'll be super annoying to have to detach and attach to use the AEB function.

and also.. i check the manual.. and didn't see a FEB function. so if Jon know of a special trick to get that work.. i'm waiting to learn more from my 430EX & G6.

This makes your request sound like you expect the camera to bracket exposures while using the flash. As I said, bracketing with flash, whether the G6 supports it natively or not, isn't the same as AEB. The 430EX has a setting for Flash Exposure Bracketing independent of the camera. It works on the 300D, which doesn't support FEB; you might see if it will on the G6 as well.
