Tokina 20-35 f2.8, anyone using one? thoughts and opinions on it?

I've had a couple of Tokina's in my Nikon film days, just wondering if anyone was using the 20-35 f2.8 on Canon mount?

Anyone?

It's hard to tell I looked it up on pbase as I'm also in the market for a walkaround lens, though it doesn't look like its all that popular as their wasn't too many that had them. It might be too that the lens has been discontinued perhaps, I'll keep ya posted if I find anything of good use though.

I couldn't find one for the life of me, everyone is sold out or they are asking $600 for them! lol I was going to try and find a used one, but I don't think they are popular enough to be readily available on the used scene.

I had several Tokina's when I shot Nikon film, I always thought they were good lens.

Well, they are very good lenses from the pictures that I've seen from a few of them, nice contrast and sharpness. The build is also praised as being "L-like" but it can be a pain finding some of their stuff.

So, how's your 17-35? I was looking at that lens myself, but the photozone.de reviews showed that it has really bad boarder performance. So, I was wondering if you had any better luck?

Mind posting an original picture with no PP and a 100% of a center and boarder crop?

Right now the lenses I'm still deciding on for my 20D are these:

Sigma 18-50 f/2.8
Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.5
Tokina 16-50 f/2.8
Tamron 17-35 f/2.8-4.5
Tamron 17-50 f/2.8
Canon 17-40 f/4

Right now the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and the Sigma 17-70 are probably on the top of my list and I'm sure the Tokina 16-50 will be as well, I figure it'll just make it harder but I'll have to wait till it debets in September to see.

I'm interested in the Canon and Tamron 17-35 for their full frame value since I'll probably be moving to that within 3-4 years. Then again though, Its probably not even worth it enough to look that far into the future as its hard to tell how much the camera technology will have changed.

Why do u want fast wide angle zoom lenses? What type of shots would u be going for? Is it for extreme sunsets or night shots?

I'm getting a 5D in the Fall so I've only been buying ff capable lens. By then I may have already replaced everything with "L" glass, but for now I'm very content with my selection.

If I were going to get any of the lens you posted it would either be the Sigma 17-70 or the Tamron 17-50. The Tamron is sharper and faster, but the Sigma offers alot of versitility with its range. I don't really use my 30D for casual shooting so I dont really care to have a walk around lens, I have a P&S S80 that I use for that.

Well, I'm on a tighter budget than most folks on here. Only being 21 and planning to go back to school for an IT degree, I can't justify spending 300-600+ on a prime for every different want and need so my "walk-around" lens needs to be EXTREMELY versitle. I also plan to shoot some metal concerts with low light, and indoor contruction jobs sometimes where the lighting is low, and where I might be too much of a bum to bring out the tripod.

Also, for the shooting I like to do 17mm-18mm will be essential on my 20D.
