I've tried my instruction manual and the camerawindow program with no luck. My XT stores my photos in the DCIM folder on the flash card and creates subfolders called 102CANON, 103CANON etc... Is there a way to change this to save the photos all in the DCIM folder without creating subfolders? The only related setting I can find is continuous vs. auto reset for file numbering.

no, only cameras that have that feature right now are the 30d and 5d. you can do that in DPP/camerawindow though, but only when talking about the pictures you stuff into your computer, the ones on the camera will be untouched.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

As 'basroil' has just said, no you can't. Why do you want to do this? Is it to make transfering them to a PC manually easier?

My old Nikon 995 had this feature, and it's the one thing I miss after switching to the 350D. BEing able to manually control the location images go into makes organizing photographs a lot easier, especially if you shoot more than one session to a given memory card.

I transfer to my computer via my smark disk and whatever is left on the flash card. Copying to the hard drive would be a lot simpler if i could just drag and drop them all in one place rather than go through the "there is already a folder with this name..." warnings or going through all the subfolders to drag each set of files into one directory.

It's not a big deal by any means. I can live with it. It would just be a little more convenient for me.

Try Downloader pro from Breeze Systems [www.breezesys.com (external link)] This has numerous options to rename files and create folders etc. as the files are downloaded from a card reader, or any other source automatically.

The computer will only re-write files in the folder and not the folder itself. So if for example you have a folder called 166Canon with images 6601-6634 and you have another folder called 166Canon on your card with images 6635-6674 it will not overwrite the files on the PC. Just click "Yes to all" and all is well.

BTW I hate the file structure, too.
