Thanks Justin, you pyro!;) I used the EF100mm macro and a 12mm extension tube.

Short5, I'll definately try to get a good shot of her eating. You'll see it if I do.:)

I was just getting ready to ask what lens you shot that with when I saw the message above. So much sharper than the ones I just posted. Guess I need to try this again with the right gear with me.. Thanks...

I hope she isn't pregnant. I was sitting at the computer in my room years back and started finding little spiders all over the place. I started killing them with a tissue and was shocked as I found them EVERYWHERE. After my killing spree, I did some exploration and found a female Black Widow behind my computer tower. Black Widows creep me out now.

They like very warm places like that. Barns are natorious for housing widows. She probably chose to camp out behind your computer because of the heat it lets off.

What's there to do when you're trying to sober up after a night out?
Take a photo of the spider eating of course::)

It's not a great shot or anything, but I said I'd post a shot of it eating if I got the chance. Ok, time to pass out. Goodnight...

BTW, this was the 100mm with the full set of tubes @ f11

Cool shot, Some very funny comments. Learned a couple of things about widows never knew...or really wanted to, but stores the sperm for 3 years???? I guess if they keep eating the males that is pretty ingenious.

Well, I dislike spiders, but have to admit, they are amazing to photograph.
I've been kind of up close with a huntsman, but not sure how I'd go keeping a widow as a pet! I think I'd have nightmares (oh, hang on, I do have nightmares about spiders... LOL)
They are both great photos Rum :)

I know what you mean - that's why I'm keeping it outside. However, there're no egg sacs yet and she doesn't seem to like boys all too much so I guess I'm safe for now.

She may not be ready for mating, maybe because she has only seen wimpy males so far. They don't really "hate" males, they just like how males taste. That black widow will choose her mate to dine with, and the blind dates you are providing may not work. However, if you can keep it outside in a screened cage males will sneak in to check her out, and she will choose the one with the best genes and taste.

Nice photos. My wife was bitten by one years ago. Absolutely scary! Be very careful.

Ah, thanks for the insight. I guess I don't make a very good matchmaker.:)

What happened after she got bit? Was it serious?
