Any good stories of 5D's surviving field conditions?

I find it quite ironic - my L lenses are supposedly the weather hardened, built like a brick outhouse devices, and yet the camera I choose to rough it out with is the 350D and 17-85 IS USM. No special handling.. actually, I am quite casual in my handling of those two and they have stood up well over the past year and 14K frames. A couple of rub and peck marks, but they are doing just fine. I made all my mistakes on them and they shrugged it off.

And the 5D is handled with kid gloves..

I am careful with mine, but I also think it feels like it can take some abuse...unintentional of course.

350D = Plastic body... 5D = Magnesium alloy body... The 5D is way tougher...
I'm not knocking the 350D as it is a good camera, but it is not built for the rigours of professional abuse... I use a 20D and 5D, I often have them round my neck at the same time, sometimes crashing into each other without any problems...

To some people cameras are things to idolize, to treat with the utmost care with kid gloves... To me they are a tool to make money from ,to pay my bills... I don't shoot out in the rain in my line of work so I don't need the weather sealing of the 1D's but if I did I'd buy one...

The 5D is a great tool, don't be afraid to use it... Go on, give it some proper work to do and you will be surprised just how tough it really is...

Yeah I'm looking to get over the 'feeling' that the 5D is fragile. I know it isn't, but I guess the first scratch always hurts the most. Good to know that it's built to take it, although I am not a pro in the respect that I do not get paid for my photography (day job in a different field takes care of the bills). Definitely not a camera to put on the shelf and admire though, I use mine often and necessarily. :)
