I have been using a 10d for a few years, should I upgrade to the 30d and if so, why?

It feels exactly like the 10D in your hands, whereas the 20D and 30D feel smaller. The colors of the 5D are closer to the 10D also. I just took out my 10D and changed the batteries and updated firmware last week, and oh my that LCD is SMALL! I had gotten so used to my 5D that I forgot how tiny it was. If you are afetr a 1.6 crop camera, go to the 30D though, it has low light high-ISO capability the 10D can't dream of producing, and the bigger LCD. SWPhoto-Imaging

Although I love my 10D, the write speed to the CF card alone is enough to make me want to scream. If I were upgrading, I'd go ahead and get the 30D for the picture styles feature.

The 10D has a little more noise, yes. That is a problem. I wasn't convinced that the upgrade wat the right thing to do, but once I got my hands on the 20D, I've been impressed, but still, aiming now for the 5D. Suzie - Still Speaking Canonese!

If you are just itching to upgrade then improvements on the 20D/30D outperform the 10D in some respects, e.g., start-up times, write speeds, higher buffer(?), low noise at high ISO, number of focusing points, etc. John

The focus (better for chasing my 2 year old with), better low light performance - at ISO 1600 and even 3200 it's awesome. The extra resolution is nice, but doesn't add a huge amount. And whilst the start up and write speeds are nice, they were an irritation rather than stopping me getting shots. D7100, 50mm f/1.8, 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6, 70-300mm f/3.5-5.6 VR, SB800
