Holy HELLLLLLL! Big white 300 2.8...how much? SIX THOUSAND BUCKS. :|

70-200 2.8 is $2,400. My god. Sony's cheese slid off the cracker.

Yeah, Dan. The guy said we could do it. He went on vacation for a week, a few days ago, and said he wanted to take it. Gotta wait 'til he gets back to get a paypal address.

I think those being "new" Sony is a typo they look a lot like the old APO G type Minolta glass, also was white/putty barreled. And the MSRP was a bit lower in the street. I think BHp had the 70-200 f2.8 for $1600 at one point. Not sure about the 300/2.8 G but it too was more costly then the Canon 300. But I assume they also sell fewer then Canon too.

It looks like this July, and being that most of the lenses look K_M, maybe you can score some used models on the cheap from those Minolta users that jumped ship.

Righty-o. A CCD sensor (which all Nikons have) generally has noticeably more noise than CMOS sensors (which Canon uses, save the original 1D).

That phrase basically means "they've lost it".

A proprietary format means that they accept something that will only work with that particular brand, for example. Take the memory stick. Only works with Sony (and a very select few Samsung products). Sony also made something I think was called the "Micro Vault". Their take on CF cards.

ah, thanks.

to tell the truth, lookg at a side by side comparison of Nikon to Canon images on www.dpreview.com (external link), I can hardly tell any noise difference.

how've sony lost it? because their lenses are way cheaper? sorry, i'm lost  my young brain can't comprehend

1) CCD is an old sensor technology (maybe not OLD but older). it has good image quality but it is prone to more noise and most of the time it is more taxing on the battery power.

2) i am guessing that "cheese slid off the cracker" means that they lost their mind..

3) proprietory format means a format that belongs to a company or a format that the company uses for all its gear. Sony is known for their love for these things and you can see it in the memory cards they use in all their portable technology (google memory stick). they are the only ones that use this as far as i know.

there is a BIG difference in the noise levels between the nikon and canon.

their lenses are not cheaper, they cost way more than their canon counterparts...
