Welome to the forum. You need to straighten the horizon in the sunset photo, this is a common error among those new to photography, You just need to be aware of it when shooting. You got a decent shot of the ducks, the lower you get to their level the better the image although it could use some tweaking w/contrast,saturation.The white geese image is OK.The water image could be improved with a polarizer. It would cut down on the glare and reflection to a degree. It would also boost saturation of the foliage. The image "Ye Old Sawmill" would also benefit from a polarizer and maybe an ND filter, the sky seems blown out, You should try to shoot this at a different time of day. "Bridge OverTroubled Waters" suffers from blown highlights in the water, This is another area where filters may have helped and again just shooting at a different time of day may help. The last image of the sawmill could use more contrast. Although you need to be carefull when making adjustments as it is too easy to overdo it. I use to do it a lot.
A couple of great books I reccomend are "Understanding Exposure" & "Learning to See Creativley" Both are by Bryan Peterson and published by Amphoto" Feel free to click on the link and view my gallery, like you, I am always looking for ways to improve.

Mike I appreciate those comments a great deal. I want to learn. Up until now my approach has been simply put, point and shoot. I have just three days ago gotten a Rebel and all of these shots were taken with my older S1IS. I posted these first because I dont have any with the new camera yet and I wanted to hear how I could improve.

I have up until now never even thought of using filters, and I am not even sure if the older camera could even hold them. I hope that yuo can soon see improvement in my work.

Thank You.

Edit - I just checked your gallery. Lily, Bull's Head and Into the Woods are my favorites. Cant even dream of being able to comment on them at this sage other than to say: Great work, I wish someday to be able to take shots like that.

Thank You.

Happy that his grandson is replicating his feat. Now that I wish I could shoot.
