I saw these while I was surfing eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com …ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (external link)

They are soft lens cases for the big glass. It looks like they have a shoulder strap, and they might work well for carrying at a race track or a car show so you don't have to schlep the hard case.

The eBay seller says they are only available in Japan, and his prices are way too high for my blood.

Has anyone seen these lens cases for less than $150 USD?

Have Fun,

Rick

Have Fun,

Rick,
Check out these guys http://www.kgear.com/l/ (external link). I just picked up a Model L311a for my 300 f/2.8 and can say that it is a great case. No problem fitting the MKII with the 300 attatched. Can even get the same lens/body with the 2X TC attatched in the bag. PacAce and CDS use the bags as well. Great stuff.

Have Fun,

I've seen this product in use in the UK recently... and it is indeed a nicely made case. I was considering getting one for my 400mm f/2.8. What put me off was the VERY visible branding: I'm always going to be a potential target for thieves and the big white bag with 'Canon' written on it might make me even more vulnerable.

I would echo Ian's comments about the Kinesis products. I have purchased a couple of items from them (tripod cases) - their service is excellent and their bags are incredibly well made.

I saw these last week, FWIW if anyone is thinking of buying from Ian (seller on ebay) he is a top bloke and wont let you down. My 300mm 2.8 came from him, prolly the best transaction I ever made on ebay.

Thanks for the comments. I looked at the Kinesis site, they have some interesting options. I'm not necessarily shopping for one of these, but I didn't know Canon had such a product. I have the LowePro LensTrekker, and it holds a bunch with add-on pouches on the outside. But what a heavy load it is. The thing I like about the Canon soft case is that it seems like a lightweight way to carry just the lens, if that fits your need.

I guess I'll keep watching - but the prices on eBay are too high to buy sight unseen.

Have Fun,

Rick

Interesting soft case, Rick. White bag to match the white lens, I suppose. But I sure wouldn't want to advertise to the whole world what I have inside my bags. ;)

I understand, and its not a trivial concern, but any case made for one lens would probably draw attention as you walk around with a camera and an 'odd looking' bag over your shoulder.

The price is scaring me away at the moment - even though the LensTrekker is in the same price range, it is more versatile.

Have Fun,

Rick

For my 300f/2.8L IS, after trying a few including a Kinesis, I went with this Tenba:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com …ghType=categoryNavigation (external link)
Less expensive than the Canon, and gives you more. The 300 with the hood reversed and leather cover in place fits perfectly, with room for a body or TC attached.
I like it so much I bought the next larger one for my 500f/4L IS.

Jack

20D, 30D, 500f/4L IS, 300f/4L IS, 300f/2.8L IS, Canon 1.4TC, Canon 2xTC, 70-300IS, 17-85IS, EFS 10-22, Sigma 150 Macro, 3021PRO, RRS BH-40LR, Gitzo 1325, full Wimberley Head v2, Wimberley Sidekick, and a bunch of other stuff. :-)

Wish I could say the same about their service - tried to buy a case from them, and followed the intructions for overseas orders, only to be ignored. I have sent them 5 emails, and had one incoherent reply about it being out of stock, then nothing for a month.

Worst service ever...

That's certainly a shame... I can, of course, only speak from my personal experience.
