upgrade to the 30D you'll never regret it, the 20D the same as the 30D but 30D has more features.

The 2.5" LCD is worth the upgrade by itself. Outside of that, spot metering, color styles (which I like) and a slightly bigger buffer are the only differences.

I have been using 20d since it came out and we recently upgraded the wifes drebel to the 30d. Its a great camera. The LCD is indeed very nice after using the smaller one so long.

Some people have said it focuses better than 20d. I don't know but it does focus very well indeed. No complaints here on focus or anything else as of yet anyway. Super camera. Possibly a bit more user friendly than 20d. Has a spot meter the 20d doesn't.
If I were buying today, it would be the 30D! 5D a bit expensive, so is 1DMark 2N but I personally think thats were you would have to go to get any better than the 30D. I like the 1.6 factor in the 30D,because I use telephoto quite a bit and I like the apparent extra reach for a given lens.

I bought the 20D first as I was battling this question myself. Then about a month later, bought the 30D at a price I couldn't pass up. I'm not sorry whatsoever. Having BOTH in the bag is nice, but the 30D and all it's bells and whistles are nice.

I just had to make that choice for a second body and I bought the 20D. Having shot so many great photo's with it before my Mk2N I just decided to go with what I know. Being used more for a "everyday camera" the bigger LCD was just more to scratch up, and I have maybe used the spot meter on the N twice. I might have got it if there was proof that the AF was better......but I haven't seen that from Canon. I just went with what I know as a proven fantasic camera, the 20D.

Unless you can get a smoking deal on a 20D then go for the 30D. The 30D has enough features to warrant an upgrade to from anything other than a 20D.

I upgraded from a 300D to the 30D. The 2.5 lcd was worth the extra price alone not to mention the extra features.

yea, the 30D is the way to go in my view.
The AF is suppose to be a bit faster/better than the 20D, so I'm not sure that guy you talked to is a reliable source or not.
Most often, then something is wrong, it's the operator that's wrong, not the equipment.
