After yesterdays thread about have you still got your film cameras.

What was your first Serious camera?

My mother bought me a Zenith EM with 50mm lens in 1982, a present for passing my driving test and up until three years ago, it still worked as my nephew had it and used it. Learned a lot from that old beast.

It felt like carrying a brick around, but felt as solid as one too!

Sometimes I felt like a Russian Weightlifter!

It was an Olympus OM-40 that I got for my 12th birthday (lucky me! I think it's the best gift I ever received!). It had a 50mm f1.8 as a kit lens.
It was a great camera. I loved it. It's dead now, the shutter has broken and it's probably too costly to repair it.

Define a real camera?

The first camera I got serious about taking pictures with was a Kodak disposable panoramic camera.

So long and thanks for all the flash

Nikon Nikkormat EL was my first "serious" camera when I was 11 or so. Came with a 24mm lens that made portraits look funny, and I couldn't afford a 50mm to replace it :)

Minolta XD-5. My stepfather gave it to me for a trip to Africa that I never took. It was in terrible shape. I had to learn how to take it apart and replace the light seals as well as a few other things. I learned about how light works and that I wanted a better camera.

I'd like to say I miss it but it hasn't left the bag since my 10d. Now with the 5d I doubt the bag will leave the closet.

A 35mm Russian 'Zorki 4' rangefinder with a 50mm f/2.0 'Jupiter 8' lens. I took hundreds of rolls of film on this until getting a Canon AV-1 SLR.

Olympus OM2n. I still think it was one of the best cameras i ever owned. Work of art. It just felt.... special. The Zuiko 50mm f1.4 prime was a gem as well.

Canon Rebel Ti.

I fell in love with Canon and now have the Ti, a Rebel 2000, A Rebel XT and get to use 20D's,30D's and Mark II's at work.

Whoever wrote Tina Turner's song "Simply the best" must have been a Canon user.
