I shot Davin James this weekend and will post a few of the shots. As a bit of player I always like to capture a bit of just the guitar in a performance. Here was his Gibson with the drummer in the background. I tricked it up in the 2nd and 3rd shot with Photoshop.

Sorry trying to fix the photo's. Sometimes I really hate imageshack!

Ok, I'm having problems re-sizing. For some reason my "save as web" is no longer saving these as smaller files. Let me know if you have any problems with seeing or this page loading.

Chris, none of them are really blowin' my hair back, and it's not because of the name on the headstock.

I can't put my finger on it, but they're just not workin' for me...

I agree with Steve ... I think it needs to start with a really crisp image of the headstock and the bokeh of the guy in the background, who isn't playing the guitar, isn't all that appealing.

Two and three looked like toned versions of the edge masks I make for controlled sharpening. The first one is interesting, but the blowout in the collar/neck of the background performer is a little distracting in that it intruduces a new shape in the highlights zones to contemplate when considering the entire composition.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll look through the other shots and see if there are any better. The headstock is pretty sharp in the non-posted image. I agree with the blown out areas.

The blow out, if it's even really a blowout, is just too close in luminance to the highlights on the fretboard and it competes for attention. I bet you could burn it in.

Thanks,

Strange how I see a shot and really like it and some it just nothing for them. Sometimes I wonder if it is because I can envision the entire show and I feel the "mood" where knowone else does?

Thanks I will burn it and see what happens.

Well, I like the first image a lot, but if I'm going to comment, I feel compelled to offer constructive criticism. Nothing I do is ever perfect, but it helps me to have a second (or 3rd or 4th) set of eyes interpret my work.

I like #1, #2 and 3 don't add anything IMO (rather the reverse)
