Hi

I had no problems with dust on my old D30, but when I got the 20D and used the 100-400 lense I started to get dust. Normally cleaned off with the blower, but some now seems to be stuck.

All the best

Keith

how come the 20D seem to attract more dust than the 30D?

Hi

Not sure it does (although which the more densely packed sensor on the 20D compared to the D30 it might show it a touch more). Think it was mainly the heafty lense (which I bought just afterwards) which pumps through a lot of air when you zoom in / out.

All the best

Keith

PS - It is a D30 I mentioned, not a 30D.

Well, I cleaned my sensor this morning and haven't broken it (which is a start).

Quick test of the wall at f22 and 1/20s and ISO800...spotless!!!!111one

I will sleep soundly now.

I had a Sigma with the push-pull zoom 'design error' and that never sucked dust onto my 300D, but I used it a couple of times on the 20D and that must have sucked a pound of dust in, and small birds.

Right, I'm off to sell my soul to my Employer but not before a nice cup of tea.

Random eh

If you had of titled this post "Race car driver chased by a swarm of killer bees" I would have believed that too :) Just something about that car and his position in the cockpit.

All the more reason to be like "Christmas Tree Guy" and buy a body for every lens you have.

Some of you'd be real trouble if that were the case.:lol::lol: Not to mention the insane increase of the "What bag for...." threads and forget about the carry-ons.

Hi

Tried converting a body cap to use on a digital SLR and use it as a pinhole camera. That certainly showed up dirt on the sensor.

All the best

Keith

PS - smallest drill we could find was a 0.35mm drill. With about 40mm from the sensor to the body cap it was working out at an aperture of about f110, which is probably too large still

www.visibledust.com (external link) <<< their product and an air compressor (dry air, ie. like at a photo lab) are all you'll ever need...to keep totally clear I clean mine about once per week. and I wouldn't say I change lenses a whole lot either

I don't have a DSLR yet but out of curiousity - If I have only 1 lens and not removing it, will the camera still accumulate dust on the sensor? Or it just happens when you are changing lenses? Thanks

Hi

What is the (real) process using the visable dust system? How easy is it to use? I take it the "wipes" are single use.

Likely to get dust there. Only the 1 series cameras are sealed, and most lenses change length (an so the volume of air they contain) when you zoom / focus them so will blow air through the body in use.

All the best

Keith
