This is one place that I would rather be defending than attacking. It was even shelled during the Balkan war but fared rather well.
The big thing to do when visiting is to walk the walls. We did and it was quite a trek. After working an appetite and thirst we visited an outdoor restaurant to partake in a large platter of mussels and some local beer.

Looks like quite a hike! I like the second one best, but I might have cropped out the people (although it shows how busy it was!)

Thanks for commenting Becca. Yes it was quite a hike around the walls and we only went half way before running out of steam. At about half way through the journey that we did make we came upon a woman with a gold mine cleverly disguised as a refrigerator filled with bottled water :-)
I tried cropping out the people but in doing so I also lost that far part of the wall on the horizon which I really liked for it shows how vast the fortifications are.

Good shots, Skip, of an impressive place. I've been to similar places, and it's unbelievable how large they are and how much effort went into fortification.

Wow, Skip! I didn't realize that was still part of the wall back there! That was quite a hike! I'll bet the lady with the water made a killing!

We were happy to pay whatever she wanted. Although they are not part of the EU they were quite willing to take our Euros since we didn't have any of their coinage on us. True business people.
