This thing seems pretty dead but I will ask anyways, where is the best authorized Sigma dealer local to southeastern WI? I am from Milwaukee and want to go test a Sigma 70-200 OS before I buy one. I am ok driving to Chicago if I need to.

I'd suggest you call Mike Crivello's, (262) 782-4303, or Art's Cameras Plus, (414) 727-0234.

Additional, I'd recommend looking at the Tamron 70-200 2.8 and the Sigma 70-200 2.8. The Sigma seems to be worth the extra price. For me, I ended up with Canon 70-200 2.8 L IS USM ver.i. There are plenty of reviews on the internet and I'd suggest you dive in. You'll def see the difference when it's time to pixel peep.

I don't thin either of those are sigma dealers. I know for sure arts is not. And I think mikes only sells canon and Nikon.

There is helix in Chicago. But I don't know if they stock sigmas

Both Mike's and Art's only do Tamron.

And regretfully Art's and Crivello's are the only two options for the Milwaukee area. There is or was a camera shop in Bayshore (Ritz maybe?), but they don't handle Canon. I really miss the pro photo shop down by Bay View, but they closed several to ten years ago.

With bicycling, there is always a discussion on the discussion forums about buying stuff mail order versus supporting your local bike shop, with the thinking that if you don't buy locally then the local shops will close and all that will be left are the big box stores. I don't know if it is the same with photographers, but I do know that I'll probably be ordering some stuff from either Adorama or B&H instead of buying locally partly due to selection and partly due to costs.

And speaking of big box stores, BestBuy lists Sigma lenses on their web site. Probably the Southridge store is the best stocked, but call and have them check their inventory.

Best Buy on 76th does not carry Sigma lenses, was just there 3 hours ago. They do however have a D600 that you can handle. Does anybody know of any stores in Madison or Chicago carry Sigma?

Kind of depends on a variety of factors, what kind of props or gear or lighting you'll be bringing, what kind of background you want (lake or pond or river or creek, trees, buildings or no buildings, and so forth). Also depends on if you want to stay in the city proper or if you want to head out to a suburb or county park. Also depends on how dressed the subject will be and if they will want to change clothes during the shoot.
A generic answer would be to head down to the lakefront, maybe near Bradford beach or possibly by Veteran's Park and the art museum. This way you could have almost any background, and if there during mid-week or off hours on a cloudy day then spectators and people passing by will be minimal.
