I thought poppies were small these are huge. Twice the size of a closed fist.

they can be large or small, depending on the variety. They're poppies. You must be feeding them right!

depends where it comes from

could be an Icelandic Poppy which is an annual in colder zones
it's an annual for me in zone 6

if its perennial, then its not an Icelandic but its definately a poppy of some sort

Looks like an Oriental Poppy to me, except the black spots on yours are quite small.

I have some like this outside my front door, they only last a day or two before the Postman manages to knock the flowers off as he brushes past them :(

Some of my neighbours have commented that they must be Opium Poppies due to their size, but they aren't :D
