photoshop question

what is the best way to soften kids pictures like portraits in photoshop. I tryed a couple of things but was no happy. asso how do you blur out the background?

any answers would be appreciated

I've never done it in Photoshop, but if you widen the aperture (by lowering the number when in Av mode) the camera will do this. If you're using a compact or P&S, use the portrait setting.

in filter, focal blur you can blur the background like opening up the aperature would. As for softening pictures I would need to see one to let you know what you need

Search for "Photoshop tutorials+portrait", "Photoshop tutorials+blur background" etc.
There are litteraly thousands of tutorials out there. Happy search ;-)a
