I just sent my tired, old D30 off to the Irvine, CA facility today to have the shutter worked on. Can anyone tell me about what I should expect to pay for the service? I thought I saw something around here that said $200, but I can't seem to find that thread again.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

D30 repair price

It will cost you $250.92 regardless of what is wrong. New shutter or adjustment. Same price for out of warranty repair.

I am getting ready to ship my D30 off to have the shutter repaired...do you have any idea how long I can expect it to be at the factory? I've never had to have my camera repaired...I just got an error code--err 80--and noticed the shutter curtain looked damaged. Canon said they would need to look at it. Any info you can clue me in on?
Thanks,
Missi

Missi,

I'm not sure how long it will take to get it back in my hands. I also had my camera display and Error 80. As soon as I find something out, I'll post it here.

Time to repair depends on many factors. I'm sure they have those parts on hand as that's a fairly common repair now that the D30 has been around for awhile. I just had a lens at Irvine for repair and it was a 10 day turn-around INCLUDING shipping, and I sent it UPS ground so it took 4 days to get there. Their shipping back was 2 days, so that means 4 days to get through the repair-mill, so that's not too bad.

Let the camera arrive, then call the next day for status. They'll let you know how long the turn around will be.

Well, to update my own question, I just recieved a fax from the Irvine repair facility. They quoted me a total of $201.28.

That includes:

$0 Parts
$180 Labor
$5 S/H fee
$16.28 Tax

Now all I need to do is wait.

Hope this helps anyone with the same questions I had about shutter lock-up repair.

This is a repair that is inevitable for all of D30/D60/10D/300D users right? How many frames did your shutter last?

And eventually (also) for 1D and 1Ds owners as well as ANY owners of any SLR, digital or not.

Right you are, but they have a much longer life than the prosumer DSLRs. I wonder if they cost more when they do have to be replaced? :D

10D at 30000 exp = $200
1D at 150000 exp = $1000 (equates to 5 10D repairs)

I'm sure thats not the case... just a little fuzzy math and humor :D

From what I've read on my quote, they are only charging me for labor. No parts are being replaced in the camera. Am I right in guessing that the actually shutter is built to last for quite a while, but eventually it unseats itself? I'm not exactly sure what happens when the shutter "locks-up." Can anyone explain this to a novice?

Thanks!
