Greetings from Finland, again.

A few photos from last weekend. Hope you like them (note: these are intentionally single performer only -pictures, more variety later).

Excellent ... great control of the harsh light.

Thanks.

I learned lots about concert photography. It's quite different to shoot in bright sunlight than indoors, as you know/can imagine.

Dwight, you're right in implying that the harsh light is the biggest problem. Or maybe the second biggest after the shadows cast by the stage complex - any shot with those shadows on anything of significance is ruined beyond repair. I used fill flash in some of the shots, and I need a big fat flash unit to replace/accompany my 420EX if I'm going to do more of these outdoor gigs.

Fill flash works wonders in harsh lighting. A 580EX and CP-E3 power pack is what you need to do the job. The 580 will most likely not recycle fast enough without the pack because you'll be firing at 1/8-1/2 power each shot :)

The last picture of the girl with red hair is absolutely beautiful. I love everything about it. Nice one :)

Thanks, Keira :)

Exit, I'm currently pondering between the Sigma 500 DG Super and Canon 580EX. While I really shouldn't use my savings for the canon, I'm tempted, as the Sigma doesn't work well in wireless mode (or so I've heard - I have a Canon 420EX currently, which might be nice as a wireless slave for concerts also even if it's not quite powerful enough) and does not have the option for battery pack.

One of the full stage shots (I should check if I can make the girl's shirt not-overexposed, though:

Very nice shots. The Indica shots are super. The rest are very well executed as well but it always amazes me how hard the bands try to look edgie and unique and only end up looking just very much the same as all the rest. I say that because my son is in a band too and he and his friends try just soooo hard to look anti-establishmentary, that they end up being very formulaic. But that takes nothing away from the quality of your shots here.... they are all very nice. And thank heavens some of these bands are really good and are much more original then their looks. Cheers.

Thanks. As a music photographer I prefer artists that have true talent over those that just dress in interesting ways. I think the talent shows in (good) concert photos.

I'm still post processing the pictures from the rock festival Here's one photo I specifically would like to hear whether it's good or not:

I can guess what Dwight has to say about that, although in defence I'd like to say that his nose is relatively small (in the picture) and you can't make out any nosehair in the full size photo ;)

The 'solo' images are very nice as usual... The group shot doesn't come even close to those IMO.
I don't see an image in your last post by the way...

Thanks. I have trouble with getting really good group shots, I'm never happy with them (any suggestions?). Here's a link to the image above: http://www.bjorklid.net …erpics/10001/_MG_1316.jpg (external link) (I see the image in my previous post...)

I see it now.. Too wide angle / frog perspective for me ;)
On the group shots: Quite difficult. Key is that something should be *happening* on stage. Also problematic is that everyone on stage needs to 'do the right thing', so there's 4 or 5 people to watch...

that last shot is great. In the others you have really captured the energy of the performance well...number 3 in particular is a ripper.
