Does anyone have a good idea how these two monitor calibration products stack up against each other? If not, any idea where I can find a comparison.

Seems to me that they are essentially the same, with the Huey able to provide on the fly ambient room lighting adjustments.

I am about to purchase one or the other myself and am wondering the same thing. The reviews that I have read loved them both.

Actually, I've seen a few negative reviews for both. Also, as they are not fully featured, they lack some gamma and wb adjustments, they are not taken too seriously by some. I have a feeling they will do what I need, which is basically make sure I'm seeing on the screen the same photo I took. Not sure why I'd need more.

Let me know if you find out anything else.

More expensive screen calibration setups will likely produce better results, especially in deep shadows and brightest highlights. Monaco OPTIX XR Pro is particularly known for its performance at the extremes, with Gretag Macbeth Eye One Display 2 being very close.

However, any calibration setup is better than not having hardware calibration.

I wouldn't get too hung up on the ambient lighting adjustment - I don't rate it as that important. I'm about to replace the lighting in my study with 6500K CRI 84 bulbs (OK - CRI >95 would be better and arguably nearer to 5000K would also be better, but there are practical concerns here) and that should be about the the end of the matter for my purposes. I am not in a professional printing or pre-press environment - 18% grey walls and so on are out of the question.

David
