Title: Remedy for the [E_FAIL] error with Zoom Browser EX
---------------
Summary

When the Zoom Browser EX enclosed , sometimes the [E_FAIL] error message is displayed
The remedy is as follows: When the database of the Zoom Browser EX is opened, if the PC is hung or forcedly terminated, sometimes the Zoom Browser EX cannot be exited properly. It may lead to the malfunction of the image control, and the [E_FAIL] error occurs. To restore the database, follow the remedy below.

Remedy

(1) When the Zoom Browser EX is operated, click [File] on the menu bar and select [Exit] from the pull-down menu to exit the Zoom Browser EX.

(2) In order to start the Explore, click on the [Start] button of the Windows, select [Programs], and next select [Windows Explore]. In the folder in which the Zoom Browser EX is installed*, the following files are found:

My Database.dat
My Database.idx
My Database.zbd

These are database related files. Move these to other folder, or delete them.

*The folder where the database related files are saved in varies depending on the version of the Zoom Browser EX.

-- When the Zoom Browser EX 2.0 or 2.1 is used
C:/Program Files/Powershot/ZoomBrowser EX/Program

-- When the Zoom Browser EX 2.2 is used
C:/Program Files/Canon/ZoomBrowser EX/Program

-- When the Zoom Browser EX 2.4 or later is used
C:/Program Files/Canon/ZoomBrowser EX/Database

To check the version of the Zoom Browser EX, click [Help] on the menu bar, and select [Version Information]. If the Zoom Browser EX is installed in the folder other than the above, select the folder in which the Browser is installed. The Database related files include three files having the extension of , , and . They are usually saved as , , and . If the names of the database related files have been changed, move the files with the changed names to the other folder, or delete them.

(3) If any files having the extension of are found in the folder in which the database related files are saved (see (2) above), delete them. For example:

D0000000.FCS
L0000001.FCS
S0000000.FCS
S0000001.FCS

When the files above are not found in the folder in which the Zoom Browser EX is installed, go to (4) below.

(4) Start the Zoom Browser EX.
Double-click on the [Canon Zoom Browser EX] icon or the [Canon Power Shot] icon on the desktop.
When the [Canon Zoom Browser EX] icon is not displayed on the desktop, click on the [Start] button of Windows, and select the following items: [Programs], [Canon Utilities], [Zoom Browser EX], and [Zoom Browser EX].

(5) A message showing that "the database could not be opened" is displayed. Click on [OK] button.

(6) When an error message showing that "the Zoom Browser EX is exited" is displayed (see the illustration), click on [OK] button. After the Zoom Browser EX is exited, re-start the Zoom Browser EX. When the error message is not displayed (see the illustration), go to (7) below.

(7) The Zoom Browser EX is started.
When the "Open the Database" window is displayed (see the illustration), click on [Cancel] button. When the window is not displayed, go to (8) below.

(8) Click the [File] on the menu bar, and select [New Database] from the pull-down menu.

(9) When a warning message is displayed (see the illustration), click on [OK] button.

(10) The "Create the New Database" window is displayed (see the illustration).
Regarding the database related files, select the "Save in" destination.*
Enter the file name (ex. My Database), and click on [Save] button.

*As for "Save in" destination, select the following folders:

-- When the Zoom Browser EX 2.0 or 2.1 is used
C:/Program Files/Powershot/ZoomBrowser EX/Program

-- When the Zoom Browser EX 2.2 is used
C:/Program Files/Canon/ZoomBrowser EX/Program

-- When the Zoom Browser EX 2.4 or later is used
C:/Program Files/Canon/ZoomBrowser EX/Database

If the Zoom Browser EX is installed in the folder other than the above, select the folder in which the Browser is installed.

(11) The “No library is found" window is displayed (see the illustration). Click on [Register the New Library]
button.

(12) The "Select the Library Folder" window is displayed. The Zoom Browser EX controls the images in the folder which has been registered as the Library. Within the Zoom Browser EX folder, select the folder in which the images are saved (= Library), and click on [OK] button.
If the default settings have not been changed, select "Library (1)." All the images in the selected folder including sub-folders are registered.

(13) The images are updated so that the database file of the Zoom Browser EX can be restored.
When two or more Libraries have been registered, click [File] on the menu bar, and select [Register the New Library]. "Select the Library Folder" is displayed as shown in (12) above. Select the folder having the name of "Library," and register it as Library again.

End.

Thanks for the tip!
How does this process effect the existing library? Are the exsting pics wiped out? If not, do the existing pics still have "image info"? like date & time of photo, etc?
I currently have the e-fail thing going on, but I don't want to do anything untill I'm sure about what I'm doing...
Thanks for any help!!

The remedy for removing the E-Fail message does not affect the film library. Everything is retained.
