How far do you all go to get to an event to take photos?

There are not many/any racing circuits in my area so I have to drive a minimum of an hour to get to one place and about 2 hours to another.

Furthest i've travelled (in 1 day) is almost 600 miles round trip to Brands Hatch and back...

Although i'm currently mulling over a trip to the Nurburgring 24 hours in Germany at the weekend :D

Is your driving time pretty high on average?

i've driven to events in vegas (3-4 hours away) and Sonoma (6 hours away) just to shoot pics.

Last year, I flew to an event in Chicago. This year, I'll be flying to NJ / Chicago / Seattle / TX / FL if things go as planned.

last year, things were 50/50 comp'd and out of pocket. this year it will be closer to 90/10.

I average around 800-1000 miles per week for work, but that's using a company van.

Long trips for events aren't a regular thing as i have a very nice track around 30 miles away from home.

I just went to SLC for my niece's wedding from VA, cost me around $400, 1800-2000 miles. I wasn't planning to go until she asked me to shoot the wedding. I arrived at the wedding and the groom had a friend who was a pro shoot it. I ended up getting only about 200 shots of my own. Didn't want to get in his way. It's okay, I enjoyed seeing my family, but that wedding was on me. :)

Not far usually ... it depends. I don't have a rule for maximum or minimum. I doubt for 'an event' I would go far. Maybe 10 miles or something.

depends on what I want to shoot.. I've been known to go as far as eight hours or as close as two blocks... but, i'm a roadtrip junkie and the 'getting there' is as fun as the shooting.. not to mention the stops along the way..

I have driven, and will again next month, 7 1/2 hours to Toronto to shoot the Molson Indy (now called Molson Grand Prix) races. I have also driven 7 1/2 hours to shoot wildlife in Montreal and just a couple of weeks ago as well as a year ago, I drove 8 hours to Maine to shoot Ospreys.

if I wish to shoot any kinda of motor sports I will have to drive for at least a hour. If I wish to get to both the east and west cost it would take me about 45min or so.

But it's like anything. You have an interest in shooting a subject, to make it interesting you will have to travel for it.

7 + hours to Maine to join PacAce, CDS, Scotts, ssim and Belmondo for shooting ospreys. It could have been a little less if we had decided to look at the feakin map or GPS.:)
However, the winner that weekend was Belmondo, 4500 miles I believe.
