How does the tubes work on the XT, I've read mixed reviews - especially with AF.

Well, the AF will hunt more, but you won't be using it (you mainly use tubes for macro, in which case you'll be using manual focus).

Tubes are an excellent way to get closer to your subject without sacrificing much (or any) quality. The only real downside I have is that when they are on your lens, you cannot focus to infinity anymore.

These shots (external link) were all taken with tubes on a telephoto lens (Sigma 70-300mm APO DG).

Then, for even more fun, you can put your tubes on a macro lens (like the canon 100mm macro) and get 2:1 pictures which look like this (external link) and this (external link).

If you do macro at all, you should really get some tubes. Get Kenkos. They are more expensive, but worth it in every way (they allow auto-aperture control and AF, if you ever want to use it).

Did I mention I like extension tubes? ;)

Oh, and BTW, you DO NOT have to modify the 100mm macro with Kenko tubes. It fits like a glove (haven't tried any other Canon lenses though as I only own one ;))

Ok...longer EXPOSURE. *gutter, sheesh* :p No gutter here. ;)
Just over a minute.

TPBM is squeaky clean and ungutter-like.

I have the Promaster ones. They don't accept EFS, but they do allow communication with the lens. I don't know if you would REALLY want to use it with the EFS anyways. They work great for the 50mm. I tried it with my 28-90mm (don't remember which tubes I used) and the extension was just too much for the short focal lengths. I love using the tubes with my 70-200 f4 L. The lens is super-sharp, and the tubes cut the minimum focusing distance down to almost nothing.

I have a Brownie ceremony, it cannot be performed for the masses however. *begins lighting candles*

Yeah and it was a total accident. If I had known, I would have posted it sooner.

I have about 3-4 inches working distance, so if you ease on up slowly they usually don't mind.

Thanks for the comments!

They do work great with the 50mm. I used my Canon tubes a LOT with my EF-S 60mm macro lens.
