I mentioned that on another forum and quite a few other people chimed in saying they also liked that smell.

BTW, this reminds me of a trip to Northern California when Ashley went nose-to-nose with a baby skunk. We were sitting on the patio in front of the motel when the baby came waddling by. Ashley and the skunk sniffed each other for a few seconds, then the skunk turned and waddled away into the cow pasture next door. About three minutes later the smell drifted our way. I guess the skunk was a little less impressed with one of the cows...

I think you and Ashley were lucky. I remember a while ago, I was at my Uncles place and his two dogs cornered a skunk in the yard. Lets just say those two weren't so lucky. We did not like the aroma either. When it's that close, and the dogs were running through the house trying to wipe the smell off of them. It was not a pretty sight. Funny now though, we laugh about it every once in a while.

Terri, I came very close to attaching a similar picture taken this afternoon of my grandson and his mother. But, I hit the refresh button first and saw your post. New grandma's think alike.;)

It all depends on how you treat them. Ashley is a very mellow, non-threatening kind of dog, and the skunk obviously sensed that.

I used to work with a woman who had a pet skunk. It wandered into her back yard one day, she fed it, and it stuck around for a couple years. She never had it descented and it never sprayed. Eventually, it wandered away back into the wild again.

Two years ago, we went camping at Salt Fork State Park in Ohio. Every night several skunks came into the campsites. None ever sprayed, thankfully, but; I must say, it was a bit uncomfortable when one night while cooking 4 of them were sniffing around my feet.

I think I'll stick with the domestic animals for pets.

At least you were smart and shot it with an Olympus... I wouldn't take my Canon anywhere near that either ... I take it you won the dare...

Won the Dare and still get crap about it. :)

Is it ok to post things that weren't taken with a Canon.  Oops!!!
