Stop that Brad. I don't want a 24-70L. I have a 28-90 That serves me well. Besides too many people have get bad copies and have to send them back. :D
*you do hear me talking myself out of the 24-70 right?*

I hear ya... I don't want 24 on my wide end... That's just not wide enough on a crop body. Now if it went 17-90... That would really be something to think about.

You ever hear about anyone getting the EF 35-350 L USM (external link)? It kinda looks cool, even though it costs a mint. I had been thinking it was IS, but maybe it's not.

skrim17: how is that sigma 18-125 lens? did you get rid of your kit lens?

I bought the lens with the XT body. I am liking the lens more now that I can get my camera out of the green box all the time, it had some serious front focus issues in manual and as I am becoming a better photographer the shots I am able to get are getting better, but I still don't love it, certainly not like I love my fifty.

I will no doubt trade it in for the 70-200 f/4 and the 24-70 when the time is right.

Since I know little to nothing of macro can I ask Athena, why you don't use the AF with tubes as I have been hearing?

If I were to get some tubes I would use them with my 50 which has a terrible manual focus ring.

A lot of times, the AF just won't be able to find a good focus. Depending on what lens you are using, and the amount of light you have, you might be able to get pretty good AF. When I am using my 70-200, I normally use AF. It's handy if your subject is moving.

I know I am paying $600 for those two extra stops... i'm also considering a canon 28-135mm is usm to replace my sigma 28-105mm as a walk around.

I've had two of this lens (28-135) and do not recommend it. LOVE the focal length, hate how soft the lens gets after about 6 months...

You certainly can use AF with the tubes as long as you get tubes that support it (which you should). A lot of guys use AF when they are photographing bugs that are moving about. The other side (that wants the maximum magnification) adjusts the focus ring to the closest it allows, gets right up there to their subject and then moves (sways) their body forward and backward ever so little to adjust the focus.

Generally I use manual focus for macros, because the dof is so small that after using AF with the center point (the fact that I don't move the focus point is a whole other discussion) by the time you recompose, you have probably messed up the focus.

The tubes would work magnificently with your 50mm lens. Go for it!

Which reminds me... I should play with my camera some tonight. I've only taken like 3 pictures in the last 2 days.
