I have two, so I'll just tell you what I have.
EF-S 17-85 for the 20D
EF 24-105 for the 5D
Both are good, bit of a price difference (and weight difference) tho. ;)

I did a price comparison before I order yesterday. Nifty was $5.00 cheaper on Adorama, but 17-40 was $50.00 higher than B&H. Of course I have ordered from them twice before so it also has to do with comfort zone & loyality too.
